Modern technology allows us to record analog audio, like tapes or vinyl discs and store them in a digital format, but the results are not always the best. The audio may be too loud in some points and too quiet in others, but you can address this issue with LASTAR. This lightweight utility is capable of normalizing and equalizing audio without requiring too much user input. Just drop your audio files, make a few simple adjustments and the software will take it from there.

LASTAR is distributed as a freeware application, but donations are accepted if you wish to support further developments. The setup file is small, so you can download it in just a few seconds. The installation process is just as fast and it doesn't involve any complicated configurations.

You can import single files, one by one, or load an entire folder, with different browsing options. Imported files show up in a list, on the upper half of the interface and you can make your adjustments on the lower half, by moving a series of sliders and selecting different options in a few drop-down menus. The software lets you increase or decrease the output loudness level of your audio tracks, their gain control, noise level, and you can also choose between several automatic equalizer settings.

If you want more control over your audio tracks, you can bring up an equalizer on a tabbed window. Besides making manual adjustments to lows, mediums and highs, you can also tweak a series of advanced parameters, like bitrate, max peek value, noise gate attack and more. Additionally, the application lets you edit metadata tags and add a cover image, on the same tabbed window.

The software is also capable of converting your audio files between MP3, WAV, FLAC and OGG formats. What's more, LASTAR acts as an audio cutter as well. You can set it to split your tracks into multiple segments, with user-defined maximum and minimum lengths. Once you're done with your adjustments, you can just click a button, on the bottom edge of the interface, and the software will start processing your files right away. It handles your tracks one by one, but it only takes one or two seconds to finish optimizing a file. If you want to make sure your tracks will come out right, you can prelisten them, before processing them, to avoid going through the same operation more than once.

You can make any kind of recording sound much better, in less than a minute, with minimal effort, thanks to LASTAR's straightforward design.

Pros

You can equalize and normalize audio tracks in no time. The software lets you make manual adjustments as well. It takes only a few seconds to processes a batch of files.

Cons

The Stop button doesn't seem to work when you prelisten your tracks, so you might have to restart the application.
